I am back with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share five things about my week!

My husband and I took my daughter to the pumpkin patch this week, which is the third year in the row we've gone to this exact pumpkin patch!  I love creating traditions with our family!

This was her favorite part, the WATER! I love how daddy is teaching her how it works!
This isn't just any pumpkin patch, it's a pumpkin patch on steroids!

Amazing Pencil Sharpener!

Okay I don't know about you but I HATE the pencil sharpeners that you find in classrooms everywhere!
They are loud, ugly and NEVER sharpens pencils correctly!! They either sharpens only one side of the pencil leaving wood on the lead or it breaks every time!!!

Okay so enough complaining now onto an amazing solution I have found and LOVE!
This pencil Sharpener is AMAZING!  I had such a hard time choosing which one to order because they come in some amazing colors!

Best pencil sharpeners!
I finally settled on pink and am so glad I did! It is a bright, but not annoyingly bright, pink! I don't even know where to start on telling you about what is so amazing about this product!!

You may ask why this pencil sharpener is so impressive! Read my top 5 reasons I love this sharpener!

1. It is QUIET!

I had students test this sharpener while the teacher was teaching. After the initial excitement of the cool new sharpener, this never distracted from the lessons! It is even quieter than the electric sharpeners I tested it against!

2. It ALWAYS managed to sharpen a perfect pencil!

And let me tell you we tried over a dozen pencils in a row and each time a perfect point! The pencil sharpener stops sharpening when the pencil is sharp! You are still able to turn the handle but you are able to tell that the pencil is ready and is not being sharpened anymore.

3.  It is easy to clean and doesn't make a mess!

Students can easily clean this sharpener out without leaving a trail of pencil shreds on their way to the trash! You easily remove the plastic box and carry it to the trash!

 4. The Price

Individually they run for $24.99, and worth EVERY penny! But if you find two other friends who want to order you will get three for $53.97 which would equal only $17.99 a person and with free shipping you can't go wrong!   If you wanted to equip an entire school of 35 the price goes down to $13.99! A nice electric pencil sharpener will run you around $19.99 to $35.99.

 5. The Company Itself!

This company is owned and operated by a teacher!  The company also gives $1 for every pencil sharpener to building a school in a developing country!

Fall Sensory Table

Fall Sensory Table / Fall Sensory Bin

Good bye Spring Sensory table hello fall!
Spring sensory table

To start Fall out on the right foot I needed to not only decorate my house but change up my daughter's sensory table. To start our fall sensory bin we started by taking a nature walk!

Nature walk to find fall sensory items
On our nature walk we collected as many acorns as we could find, we took a few walks!! Tip: if you are bringing them inside make sure they are not cracked as they could have some sort of little critters living inside of them!

I wanted to fill our fall sensory table with corn and acorns. You can fill yours with all sorts of things like leaves, pine cones, sticks, etc. I wanted mine to be somewhat easy to clean up so my daughter could do it on her own without me having to bring out the vacuum every time she played in the sensory bin, which is usually daily.   Also when children pick up the little corn pieces they are using pincer grasps so some good fine motor going on too!

To make sure you have no little critters living inside your acorns follow these simple steps!

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

1. Check for any cracks or holes in the acorns and throw them outside for animals to enjoy!

2. Wash the acorns in water and pat them dry

3. Place acorns on a cookie tray and put them in your oven that is heated to 350 degrees

4. Bake the acorns for 15 minutes

To find the site where I found these instructions you can click here. You will also find an adorable acorn wreath you can make!

Once you have done this you are now ready to complete your fall sensory bin!

Now all that is left is for your students to enjoy!

Currently October 2015

http://ohboy3rdgrade.blogspot.com/2015/10/currently-october-2015.html
Welcome October! I am teaming up with Oh Boy Fourth Grade to share what I am currently up to this October!  You can join the link up by clicking on the above picture!

Fall is one of my favorite months! I love being able to wear jeans, sweaters and boots!! I also love getting into my car and turning on the heated seats!! I just wish fall stayed longer than it does!

I am in dire need of organizing my work materials! At the end of last year I moved out of the classroom and into a new position, which leaves me traveling all around the district and not going to an office.  So I am living out of my car right now! I plan on getting things in order so I have what I need with me at all times and then going into my office and organizing that as well!! So much to do!

I have the best hubby who goes out of his way to get my a McDonald's diet coke in the mornings I am home! Such a sweetie!!

Hope your October has started out well!

If you want to see how I made this project last year with my 1 year old check out my blog post here!

I created a new fall sensory bin for my daughter to play with!! I do not like bugs so you'll have to check back on how I made sure that none of the acorns would bring anything into our home!  I have a post coming on my fall sensory bins soon!

Sensory tables and activities

I am no longer in the classroom so I needed to get a pencil sharper that could travel with me and I found the most perfect one ever!!

Not only can you choose from amazing colors but I haven't met a pencil yet it doesn't sharpen PERFECTLY!! You can check them out here and I will also be blogging more about them next week!

I took an old childhood desk of mine and have been working hard to transform it to something that I can love! I have been sanding, painting, stripping the first paint job and repainting! I can't wait to show you my finish product next week! My hubby will be so happy when all of my stuff is off the kitchen table!!
